My Biography
I am 22 years old and have been passionate about Animation and Illustration since I was a child. I grew up in a small market town in Cambridgeshire Uk, whilst at school one of my main passions was the School's Sound and Lighting team. I was a member for five years, assisting at major school events such as productions and music concerts. Here I gained vital team work skills which I was able to transfer over to other activities such as the School Archery Team. I have been able to apply the team work skills that I first learnt at school to my client work in university as well outside of university.

I love to help out my community and inspire people to read books. I volunteered and spent time at a local primary school helping the Year Six class with their reading. For three summers I volunteered at my local library helping with the Summer Reading Challenge, this allowed me to pass on my love of books to others. Working with young children sparked my interest in creating educational animations to help children and young adults who have learning disabilities, especially the hidden ones such as Dyscalculia (a learning disability effecting mathematics.) This area is something I hope to expand on in the future by helping to create and illustrate a book series on the same theme.
In my spare time I like to spend time outside, I particularly enjoy spending time on the water canoeing and sailing. I also love reading, watching Anime, films and sketching and listing to audio books and occasionally playing video games and spending time with family and friends.

Animation and Illustration Journey.

I am Master Illustration graduate form Nottingham Trent University and a Animation graduate from York St Johns University. My preferred style of working in animation is 2D using ToonBoom Harmony and for Illustration I like to create digital art work using procreate or clip studio paint.

My Animation Journey

I like the way that 2D animation conveys the story and character's to the viewers and how impossible things in the real world can become possible in a 2D environment. I also love doing background work, as I find that this is area that often brings the piece alive and sets the whole style for the finished animation. Over the past three years I have been able to work with various clients from the York Art gallery to Spectrum First. I was also lucky enough to get an internship with The Red Tower York Community Hub, to illustrate a children's book called Red Tower A Mouse's Tail. My animation work, especially the character and background work, was very helpful and useful to apply when I did my internship. Conversing with these clients and also working with a professional voice actor on one project has helped my communication skills and has helped me to learn how to bring a professional approach to a project. I have also learned through my animation projects, such as my 2nd year joint project with games design to create a game and my work with writers and page designers how to work as part of a team. I have also learnt different skill sets in the industry such as illustration, editing, graphic skills, basic rigging of a character and lip syncing as well has having good knowledge on visual storytelling and character performance. During my animation degree I wanted to help people, especially those with hidden disabilities like Dyscalculia as it is never talked about in the general public. I have always wanted to help people which sparked the whole journey I have been on in my art and this passion carried over to my masters in Illustration and in my Illustration work in general.

My Illustration Journey

During my animation degree I ended up doing a internship where I illustrated a children's book called The Red Tower; A Mouse's Tail, which has now been published. This sparked a greater interest in illustration which led me to pursue a Masters in Illustration at Nottingham Trent University.
I am mainly a digital artist for my Illustration work, as I feel to work digitally rather than on paper gives greater freedom. I loved my time doing my Illustration master's as I learned a lot about myself and my art work, as well as learning so much about the world of illustration. It was not easy as I was pushed out of my comfort zone with experimenting with materials I have never used like lino cut print. I love to do small highly detailed work, mainly working in Black and white and using shading to create contrast in the piece with pops of colour, which is a contrast to my animation style. I loved the projects that I did, my favourite one being Human Impacts on the environment. This project help to cement the art style that I want to pursue and develop and helped me to understand better that backgrounds and creating environments is what I really want to do, as well as pursuing Illustration as a career. I would like to use my artwork in the future for education whether its to encourage children with reading books about our world and to take a interest in it or to help teach people about hidden learning disabilities, such as dyscalulia. I also hope that my illustrations make people happy and feel like they are not alone or isolated.
I take pride in the work I do, as well as the strong relationships I’ve built with clients and colleagues. I firmly believe in working hard, working together and having fun along the way.
